Do Catholics start confession with, Forgive me Father for I have sinned? [I Confession]

After confession do they believe their sins are absolved?
Is it only Catholics who go to the confessional?

Reminds me of a joke...

An elderly man goes into confession and says to the priest,

“Father, I’m 80 years old, married, have four kids and eleven healthy grandchildren, and last night I had an affair with two 18 year old girls. I made love with both of them… twice.”

The priest said, “Well, when was the last time you were in confession?”

“Never Father… I’m Jewish.”

“So , why are you telling me?”

“Oh, I’m telling everybody!”
I was a catholic,,and I never understood it.

Apparently only God can absolve your sins, so why go to confession?

Surely its felt within the heart.

@BoobooSnafu Yes, seems strange to me.
The confession is a way of feeling validated as an imperfect human?
@Gusman honestly ...I think its egotistical on the churches part to think they have the right to absolve you .

Plus....I think its actually a kinky type of voyeurism.

And what does it do?

People think they're absolved...and go out and commit the same sins , cause they think they'll be absolved next weekend .

Its bullshit.

If you do wrong, you feel guilty, you don't do it again....easy.

No bloody priest needed .

@Gusman also normally non Catholics can't receive the sacrament of reconciliation, they can under grave circumstance receive it if they seek out a priest
