I Am Angry

Has Brexit opened the doors for open racism on Britains streets, schools, places of work? Is it really acceptable to overlook your child giving open abuse to another child who wasn't born in this country? Is this really going to make Britain great?? Really????
If this is an example of how to be British I have to admit I am very afraid of what is to come.🙁

I agree with EssexPhil that what's there today was also there last week. I voted to leave, not really because of immigration but because I don't want to be answerable to a secretive bureaucracy hell-bent on a United States of Europe run by them.

As to racism, in my opinion, the only workable solution is integration - my grandparents and their parents came here as refugees at the start of the 20th century, so I hope I know what I'm talking about. The stories about the NHS spending £millions, if not billions on translaters is just plain wrong. I don't think it's racist to insist on immigrants learning the language and respecting our laws. I do agree with you though, Lemonysnicket, that there should be no place for verbal abuse towards anyone!

I don't know about the situation there, but don't think Brexit is to be blamed for. Immigration policies all over Europe have been awful, without a responsible planning of how many of them should enter the country

The result will certainly lead to the EU having to reform itself as others question their membership. The U.K. will continue to be a welcoming nation. The issue of racism in the UK is separate to this debate. I believe there is still much to do in this area. I have a good friend who is asian who was explaining why he was voting out, telling me how his community has been completely transformed and overwhelmed by economic migrants. His views were balanced and all he wanted was some control on numbers who settle in inner city areas. Is he racist to think this way?

Haha, I like it Artiekat. Talking about cats, I don't suspect her Majesty was purrrring down the phone to David Cameron when he called her to discuss the EU outcome as she did after the Scottish Referundum!

Exactly what I meant it's not new it's always been there but probably youre looking at situations in a different way that's all

@GypsyMiss I'm not sure what's sad, nothing has happened yet and it's far from clear to me that it actually will happen. My opinion was that it's a referendum to gauge public feeling, that's been done and it's not far off 50/50...there's still a lot of things required before we're out. I really don't think it's clear cut yet.

if it's there today it was there last week...brexit seems to be dividing the country and the behavior I've seen from the stayers has been awful...the generalisations that the leavers are racist, imbecile retards, no wonder people are wound up. I'd love to know what it is you saw and heard.
Ironicman · 56-60, M
No I don't think it will Lemony. I think the referendum process and result will now rightly put our political system firmly on the agenda for change. Chilcot enquiry being published In a couple of weeks will add further momentum. Report the hate crime you have witnessed to the police. They have a duty to receive third party reports.

Well put essexphil. I live in London and voted for Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London and was astonished at the aggression and language he used in the pre referendum TV debate. I've read some of the post referendum comments from the remain camp about brexiters being uneducated and racist. This behaviour itself says a lot about the state of our country. #brexenophobia

Typical cheap shot. Now 52 percent of the British population are opening doors to racism because they wish to exert control over their own country instead of giving it to unelected elites in Brussels? The accusation of racism has been used so often that it is losing all effect and is the last refuge of cowards who simply cannot argue on the merits an issue but must shield themselves from unpleasant realities by smearing those who differ with them. Disgusting, pathetic, and no longer working very well either.

It's such a mess. I am really sad for everyone involved...for Britain who has lost so much and for the other countries who lose even more in the wake of Britain's departure. What an untenable situation.

On a lighter note: I just asked the cat what he wanted for brexit.... Not sure which is worse, talking to animals or confusing the best meal of the day with a "show" which will run and run....
GypsyMiss · 46-50, F
@essexphil what's sad is the waste and cost of the whole situation past, present and possibly to come.
comfi1 · 61-69, M
Sadly I think it has always been there to an extent. It has just come to the surface.
Sueisright · 31-35, F
It's something that maybe you saw because you were looking for it maybe?sounds stupid to say that maybe but things are gonna be a little unsure for a bit till it settles so maybe we look at things differently and see things we didn't see before but In fact sadly it probably was happening before already.

I don't like him, broken promises already and didn't he say that there's too many whites on TFL? Hang on, it's not colour or race, it's ability to do a job. I found his comment racist but sadly nothing said against white people is deemed as racist...
