Hard to say w/o context but usually this kind of thing happens due to a buildup of resentment over relatively minor infractions that eventually becomes unresolvable. You avoid it by learning to spot when someone is quietly upset about something and try to address things they're upset about before it reaches a breaking point. The sooner the better.
I don't know. People like my brother seem perfectly normal till he is set off.

Idk, I got lucky I guess. .
I have anger issues but the love of my life is so sweet and mellows me down. I dont get angry at my love but many many years my rage was incredibly explosive and self sabotaging. I wanted to pew pew myself and i was angry at everyone keeping me here.
And I was hurtful.
My partner never hurt me. Never hurt me back.
I will never forget that.

@Miram you have a strong love. And he knew there was much more to you. Some anger is absolutely worth a deeper look.

Yep, or there is if you know the person. Refuse to be around them. When that doesn't work, try a liberal application of instruction utilizing a baseball bat.

I wish there were an easy answer for this one. It seems we let our guard down in order to seem amicable then get blindsided even though the red flags were there all along. Honestly, I got so far out of the game my BS radar still needs calibration.
@SageWanderer this is the key

I think using intuition to pick up on little things and not discounting red flags as imagination.
It's not just a guy thing, I've known some pretty toxic women in my life.
Nothing worse than investing yourself in someone then finding they're a nightmare.

@robingoodfellow yeah I want to avoid it completely, so it'll be important to not engage at all. I don't want anywhere near that first explosion.
@robingoodfellow I said men just because that's what I have experienced a few times now romantically.

I have no clue. I'm sure they show their flaws somehow
@WanderingHelplessly I'm trying to avoid it completely. I wish there were a repellent.

@EldritchFox I understand
