Stop the world. I want to get off.

I'm tired of technological change. Can we just be modern day menonites and leave things alone. We'll have zippers and LED lights but do we really need driverless cars, cloning, drone deliveries, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality? It just seems like it's a loosing battle. Like paddling down a rapids that has a waterfall at the end of it. A smarter man would get off the river and portage.

Things like this have been said since the invention of the crossbow a thousand years ago…everyone thinks the technology on the horizon will be the end of everything. On the other hand, world ending technology has never been more accessible 🤷‍♂️
@Zaphod42 He's nothing more than a modern day Luddite, my Grandfather, who would have turned 98 in two weeks, was an electrical engineer and pioneer computer scientist and debugger, and would be laughing at him for being so ancient.

@Zaphod42 It goes back further than that. Socrates lamented the development of writing and reading fearing that people would not remember things as they did earlier when they could instead refer to a book.
@ninalanyon Indeed, the very subject of his trial, and subsequent death penalty, claiming that he was corrupting the youth by educating them. Sound familiar? cc: @Zaphod42

Big argument on here yesterday about movie companies switching everything to download and ending dvd/blu ray players/recorders.
Arguing that they retain the right to continuously charge for anything you want to watch but ironically already own
@Picklebobble2 Ah, the Disney DivX platform of the 90's, purchase one of their proprietary hi def DivX DVD players and their discs, get to play it as many times as you want for 48 hours, any play after that was like $5.00 each time. Parents of young children sued Disney after they saw their bills.
Just admit you're a Luddite and leave it at that.
