sometimes ..Especially for for the ones that kill your immediate family...

I believe that death penalty exists but I don't think it's moral. Taking someone's life who took another life makes absolutely no sense.

@Randomperson: Yes it is. Those individuals is not an argument for death penalty. Killing them will not cure the society, I think it's more for revenge then justice. Those people need psychological help and maybe more then just isolation(jail).

@Deleteyourself: I guess if the State says kidnapping is wrong it shouldn't lock people up.
Yes you're right more cuddles for mass murderers

@Faerylight: It's not the same thing.

I do not. People get carried away with emotional reactions which often end up provably wrong. Many people have been found innocent long after sentencing.

@HazPassportForYourGalaxy: Wrong emotional reactions that terminate lives?
HazPassportForYourGalaxy · 51-55, M
@Randomperson: Well in the case of the death penalty applying yes. Many were found innocent after DNA evidence became a thing for example. Kind of hard to collect DNA from someone who's been incinerated.
AmyEssexGirl · 26-30, F
No. There is no place for that type of punishment in a civilised country.
Carver · 31-35, F
No, I'm against it.
IcePrincess · 26-30, F
Certainly cheeper for the state...
IcePrincess · 26-30, F
@Randomperson: Results are the same...I'm talking about the costs
DaneeK · 31-35, F
@Randomperson: oh, i see. like in countries like N. Korea and a few others. Gotcha.
IcePrincess · 26-30, F
@DaneeK: Yep
FreeSpirit1 · F
For certain crimes I do
Randomperson · F
@FreeSpirit1: other than murder what else deserves killing for?
FreeSpirit1 · F
@Randomperson: Rape and torture of a child. Terrorism repeat sex offenses against children
Randomperson · F
@FreeSpirit1: Wow you've touched very sensitive issues, I totally concur
ajoite · 51-55, F
No because I don't believe in justice and corruption is everywhere, doesn't mean I don't believe some people deserve to die
Bluesky52 · 61-69, M
yes,,,,,
JustLikeGreta · F
Yes I do.
DaneeK · 31-35, F
no

SW-User
No, but that doesn't mean I think some people don't deserve to die -it just means I distrust the state and I think it has unintended negative consequences. That said when people start talking about how jail should be about 'rehabilitation' not punishment I can quickly change my mind. I'd prefer someone who raped and killed a child to fry than ever be released.

Yes....to people who killed people and people who did something like robbery or snatched bag and then caused the victim to die..

Not at all
Randomperson · F
@FeetAreFantastic: If somebody terminated your family, was remorseless and smiled at you in court and got a life sentence instead of the electric chair wouldn't that mess you up?
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
@Randomperson: no. Actually I think a life sentence is a penalty that's much worse.
But no kind of penalty is going to make me feel any better or bringing back the dead. Any form of satisfaction with revenge is very short lived. I also think life is a fundamental right for everybody, in principle. When we put someone to death, that's murder too.

@FeetAreFantastic: How is a life sentence much worse, when they carry on living. Sheltered, fed, clothed, tutored and entertained and in rare cases let out for good behavior only for them to repeat the killing spree.Almost 100 killers, rapists and paedophiles who were given life sentences by judges have been released - only to be jailed for life again.
In the last decade, 95 criminals have been let out on parole but have gone on to commit horrific crimes which have resulted in another life sentence.
The shocking figures include 13 violent criminals who were locked up for a second time in 2015.
It means innocent victims have been killed, raped and abused by convicted criminals that the parole board considered were safe to re-enter society.
