I'm always honest, I don't consider being truthful to be mean, especially if they asked.
Blue02berry · 26-30, M
Well, it would be mean if you were pointing out a flaw in someone purely for the sake of making them feel bad, yeah. Criticism is sometimes necessary though, and certainly justified if they are opening themselves up to it.
SW-User
I meant criticism is not always necessary
Blue02berry · 26-30, M
Yeah that's what I mean, you shouldn't criticize someone for no reason but if they ask you for your honest opinion it's okay to give it to them.

Just say, wow you got more to love don't you.
SW-User
Lol That's so sweet

Be kind about it. Say something like it does look like you put on some weight and possibly offer to help her if you can.
SW-User
Be kind and be honest, you mean
SW-User
@Alex1610: Yes
SW-User
She knows...what's the point in being mean
SW-User
There is, actually. But you made a valid point
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Be honest I guess. But gentle.
SW-User
Gently honest lol
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
My friends know that I give honest answers so if she is my friend then she must be able to handle that honesty. I would probably use words like overweight instead of fat though. If she doesn't want an honest answer then she shouldn't ask me.
SW-User
I agree all the way

It won't if she accepts it
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
If she asks she already has a clue so I'd tell her
SW-User
Good point!
gummybears · F
I wouldn't be nice
SW-User
Be nice yet be honest
gummybears · F
@Alex1610: sure
Be honest.. she asked lol.
SW-User
Lmao very true
ForeverOnMyGuard · 22-25, F
Gaining weight doesn't necessarily mean she's gotten fat, and if she has, she's noticed already. I'd tell her that if she has a problem with her weight, then she should try to fix it.
SW-User
She doesn't have a problem with her weight, she just wants to ask for a validation
AnukBinary · M
Don't be rude and not tell them. Because if you dont tell them and they continue on faith of your word then they could continue to gain more weight and it would be harder for them to loose it.
SW-User
I think so too
AnukBinary · M
@Alex1610: I would be hurt if no one told me
SW-User
@AnukBinary: Don't worry, I'll be honest...hardcore
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
There's a difference between gaining weight and getting fat, but I would always rather be honest about it.
SW-User
This question didn't state that gaining weight is the same as getting fat.
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
What I meant is, just because she gained weight it doesn't mean she got fat. Much like just because someone lost weight doesn't make them thin/slim.

If someone has gained weight but isn't fat (even if we were to use a limited scale such as BMI) then you should have no problem in being honest. If someone has gained sufficient weight to be considered fat (once again by BMI standards) then I still would think it would be better to be honest but obviously be a bit more diplomatic about it as there may even have been due to medical reasons.
SW-User
I meant the question gave enough info to clarify that it didn't prove gaining weight is related to getting fat.
fiwill2000 · F
To be honest some people suffer medical conditions causing them to gain weight dont you think they suffered enough without being bluntly told your fat.. its not about the outer person its whos inside that matters
SW-User
You made a valid point
Mordi · 31-35, M
"What does the scale say?"
SW-User
LOL
Mordi · 31-35, M
It's not even a joke. Self-realization is the most effective. And I don't have to answer awkward questions.
SW-User
@Mordimoux: It's not? Oh, my apology
SW-User
A friend wouldn't ask me if they didn't want honesty.
SW-User
Well said
KandiGhostcat · 22-25, F
Well if I was to be honest I'd do it in a nice way.
