If a friend who's gained weight asks you if she's gotten fat, do you spare her feelings or be completely honest?

My friends know that I give honest answers so if she is my friend then she must be able to handle that honesty. I would probably use words like overweight instead of fat though. If she doesn't want an honest answer then she shouldn't ask me.
