I'll volunteer to be your beneficiary
Harmonium1923 · 56-60, M
Then it goes to the estate, which will send it to your closest relative (possibly him). So you should specify someone or some charity.

Name a charity or something like that other wise someone worse then your brother might get it, like maybe the government, & you how wisely it’ll be spent if that happens.

I think so - then it goes into your estate. Then when you die, if you have no will it is distributed according to the laws of the state you are a resident of.
If your brother is the nearest relative then he would get it - if you want to complicate his life - you could make him probate the estate and pay a lawyer to do the paperwork - hopefully that would eat up a chunk of it.
OR - you could make a charitable organization the beneficiary.
You can always change it at a later date if you wanted to.

If you have no beneficiary, you probably don't need the policy. If you can, you might be better off paying into a retirement account instead of paying premiums on a life insurance policy. If it's included in your work compensation, you could make a charity the beneficiary
Mazguy67 · 56-60, M
Yeah it's your policy you can do what you want but I think you can also name an organization, so maybe find a charity that means something to you.
I'm pretty sure you can name a charity
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
You can name your Church, or any in state Charity to be the beneficiary if you want. It's your money / policy and your choice.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
The money goes to your estate by default. You can leave the money to a friend or to charity .
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
You could leave it all to me. I'm skint, although I'm probably not out living you. I'm also absolutely knackered as well as being skint. 😢😢 Oh well, you could leave it to charity I suppose.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
Leave it to a dog or cat shelter. You do have to have an executor who will make it happen.
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
@hunkalove I have no one
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@LeGrotesque Better that your brother gets it than the government.
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
@hunkalove oh I'd give it to my roommate before I let my brother have it
GerOttman · 70-79, M
I think depending of local law it might end up with the state or the insurance just doesn't pay anyone. is there a charity you could name? maybe an animal shelter or something.
Like2play · M
Why do you need that insurance?
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
@Like2play my company requires us to have it
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@LeGrotesque why?
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
You just wouldn't have life insurance then. It's supposed to support love ones and replace your income when you die. You should get some to cover your funeral though. Or maybe not, you'll be dead, who cares.
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
@JimboSaturn they can chuck me away in a bin bag for all I care.
KatyO83 · 41-45, F
If he's you next of kin by default he'll probably get it anyway. Best either pick someone random or a charity.
