Did you ever feel despair about your entire life?

Not just finances, social life, romantic life, or family, but ALL of it? I've been battling chronic PTSD for nearly two decades, and while I've learned 'some' tips on how to lower anxiety in the moment, my overall 'Self' has not improved. In fact many days I feel I have NO self.. And it's extremely diffiult finding a job feeling this way, dating (never do :( ) , even connecting with old friends ( I feel lacking in all parts of life, they'd look down on me).

Besides my own life or 'self', I have no one I can ever feel close to, or that would be there for me. My dad passed this year, my 'mom' is a psychopathic Narcissist I'm trying to cut all ties with, and my sister is very ill with unstable diabetes :( She's my best friend, and she gets worse by the week. It scares me b/c I can't even BEGIN to imagine life without her. But I can't go to her with too many issues b/c she's suffering so much everyday.

If you've ever felt despair, anxiety, fear etc. about how to change your life, or gain confidence, were you able to achieve it? if so, how ?

Choosing to think positively. Stopping any negative thought and replacing it with a simple positive thought. Every moment of everyday. Listening to positive motivational YouTube videos even if you don't "feel" like it or even if you aren't sure you believe the positive affirmations... place those positive thoughts in your head listen every morning. If you're a good person that's the evidence you need to know there are other people who are good too. I come here, and vent but this year I'm TRYINag to focus on as much positivity even tho I sound full of myself... I do it for my mental health. Let me know if I can DM you. If it's too much -- I understand. Wishing you well.

@Mindful I appreciate your perspective, and it would be fine to DM 🍀
The only real tip I have as one who regrets her entire life is this, leave the past behind you. I’ve been working at this for a few years but only heavily in the last year.
It’s helped.
I still struggle with things. I still have to keep moving forward in a life I’m not happy with or on, but things are changing.
I have a lot of battles with me because I find myself playing past things over on my mind, applying them to recent ones and… that makes every normal, perfectly fine day a misery.

Yes at times, I have felt despair about it all. It can come, this feeling. .. Then I picked myself back up and continued. I had to cross a lot of thresholds, in order to get myself out of that victim mentality, and into gently taking action towards change, one day at a time and one little thing at a time.
Since it is health we are looking for, in all levels, I begun with healing what I can and not what seemed so hard at the moment. Changing my diet, my physical health with exercise... then slowly there are changes in other domains ..art.. you already singing.. <3

I can relate to this so much. I have different kinds of coping mechanisms to deal with it. But what I’m struggling with at the moment is that I’m too tired to keep trying so I sort of let it all fall apart.

So yeah for me it’s a change in routines. When your days feel like the same day in and day out this contributes to that feeling. I try to break that pattern by doing something different.

I cannot make myself happy. I can't validate myself. What works for me is helping others. Making others happy makes some of that happy come back to me.

I'm feeling that somewhat now for letting my health and physical condition get so bad. And I can't just do any exercise now being on Elequis I have to be so careful of every movement not to tear a muscle and possibly cause internal bleeding that usually heals without thinking about it
i have felt like that a few times in my life. it eventually got better, but there were a few years when i was very depressed and struggling. it can definitely spiral downward if ya dont get it under control.
i got on meds and it helped me get alot better.

Its not easy .It was never easy .The negative thoughts don’t always go away.
I too feel what you stated but there’s a slight difference between your approach and mine .
Just remember:Time is not constant.Changing times bring new beginnings and opportunities.

Whenever I feel down ,I always think this too shall pass .This too shall pass .
and it does.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Keep making positive efforts every day, even if they are small. You can do it!

I struggle with it all. I just never really talk about it.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@moonlightlullaby I think talking about it can be helpful.... it does make me feel less alone, b/c I see all my old friends thriving, going on vacations, getting nice jobs etc. , getting married.. and I have none of it. And do none b/c I believe I'm not worthy of it, due to my PTSD. That I'm less. It's SO hard to override this belief. but when people on forums share with me, they feel this way sometimes, even for a moment it helps me.
@Baybreeze never ever trust social media!
