im making some coffee soup

Coffee soup is a traditional, frugal dish from Amish and rural American history. To make it, heat milk until steaming, stir in a pinch of instant coffee and sugar to taste. Pour this hot, sweet, coffee-flavored milk over crushed saltine crackers or stale bread in a bowl

Frugal? I guess they aren't buying their milk at 7-Eleven.

That actually doesn't sound half bad. It reminds me of the kind of simple comfort food people made when nothing went to waste. Fun fact: there are over 400,000 Amish living in the U.S., with the largest communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana.
