Yeah, about the same with me. But he died when I was 17...so lots of decision making after that.
But he was a great dad

Yes and no. Nobody is perfect. Before he passed away, he did apologize somewhat. And that was oddly comforting.

I do have an idea where he failed. Yet don't know how he could have gotten around the situation. He didn't have custody.

My dad was a good man. But I inherited his values, which wasn't necessarily good. My parents were no more than wounded children, themselves, and didn't have a clue how to parent in a loving way.
