Through a tragic situation I helped a friend that once helped me, and I gained another beautiful pet (A Rottweiler)
Life is weird on how things come back around to us even in the most terrible of ways leading to blessings through tragedies. Let me explain.
15 years ago, I had a female Rottweiler that needed a good home and a Lady I knew adopted and loved that dog until the Rotty passed away. That same lady adopted an abused abandoned young male Rottweiler from a rescue in Texas that has had over 500 recues over the years. Any Way my Lady friend let's call her Laura (Not her real name) had the male Rotty for 9 months and was told in February 2026 that she has Pancreatic cancer. She started Chemo and became very weak having a helper to come live with her just to handle life and her two Rotties, cats, and her home and property. Over that same time my sister who introduced us as friends was given a stage four tongue cancer diagnosis and is in the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Cleveland Ohio fighting for her life. I was not going to get another Rottweiler until my sister's situation improved where I would go to Cleveland and run her back and forth daily for 7 weeks straight for radiation treatments with a 60 to 70 % cure rate post the tongue tumor surgery removal and tongue rebuild process. My Sister had previous immunity disorders and post op those are now threatening her life, and we are not sure if she will survive to have radiation treatments (In the ICU on a ventilator and tractotomy feeding tube now).
So, Laura contacted me on May 30th via Facebook telling me her situation and that she is going to have to go into assisted living and needed to place Tonka her beautiful rescue Rottweiler with a good loving home. She knew I lost my last Rottweiler May of 2025 and asked if I was ready for a new one. I told Laura about my sister who wanted her situation kept private with just family and my possible assistance needy coming up with the radiation being that I am retired without obligations that I could easily handle the 7 weeks away from my farm in deep Southern Ohio (a 5-hour drive one way to the Cleveland clinic in Cleveland, Ohio). I told Laura let me check my resources to cover Tonka if I adopted him. I got the coverage needed just in case my sister surprises us all and pulls through the surgery. So, Monday June 1st, I drove to Mansfield, Ohio to see Laura and to meet Tonka (2 hours and forty-six-minute drive one way). Tonka and I hit it off and after half a day together I brought Tonka home with me. Two Bachelors on my farm, and he did not want to bite or argue when I dressed as Willa Saturday to go to the club. Tonka is a beautiful 16-month-old buddy for me and getting to know my outside farm cats as friends too.
So, I returned the Rescue favor of a loving home to Laura as she faces a fight for her life too as she was able to help me out 15 years ago, and I can still help my sister with her needs. I Pray to God Both Ladies recover, Amen! And I give Tonka and myself a new Beautiful friendship together.
