do you process externally or internally?

for the most part, i will talk about something once it’s already over and in the past, not while it’s happening.

Both. If something is really upsetting me, I talk to myself out loud about it and create a type of role play scenario to work out my emotions and solutions.

If it isn't that emotional, I'll turn it over and around mentally to see if I can work it out.
this makes sense, perhaps talking out loud to yourself is still internal processing because it’s not an outside source.

i think external processing is more involving other ppl and talking to them about ur problems. i think a perfect middle ground is therapy, it’s you talking to yourself with the help of someone who can both listen and mirror things back and reaffirm what you are feeling and saying without actually bringing in anyone else.

but therapy is also a form of external processing. so it’s both in a way. right? @FoxyQueen

@deathfairy I couldn't say. I have done the talking out loud to myself to process things since I was a child. I simply assumed it was because I had no one I felt safe expressing myself and feelings to as a child and having anxiety and PTSD most of my life, so I did the next best thing. It is a good indicator of how stressed I am about the situation though. I know that if I am self talking for more than a day, it is something that has really touched something that I won't be able to process easily.

I never mentioned it to my therapist simply because I realized why I do it and I just have to either ride it out or use a CBT tactic to change course if all I'm doing is repeating the problems and not creating solutions.
it’s your way of processing things. i think it’s rly healthy. if it works for you, then that’s great. i don’t think it’s anything to worry about, but i am not a professional. just a rando on the great world wide web. <:

i also talk to myself. it’s my way to self soothe. @FoxyQueen
