It depends.
Sad is a human emotion too, we all go through it. Sometimes sadness is necessary to process and understand events and other feelings. It's not something I avoid or run from in others because I have felt sadness that broke me apart, and others avoided me. I understand it's difficult to be around, I understand people saying to stay away. But it's a human emotion and behind it can be a good person who is trying to feel better. Not saying you have to take on others feelings or help them...
Just that sad is not evil. Sad is normal and I worry for humanity as we all avoid anything that doesn't make us happy and positive. The more we all avoid each other, the lonelier it gets.

Are they making you sad because they're attacking you in some way? Or are they making you sad because you feel such empathy for their struggles?
If they're attacking you, yes. If you feel for them, then no, lift them up, love, we all need that hand sometimes.

No, but you should learn when to say no to them even if it means walking away. Sometimes the heart needs the conversations it doesn't want to hear and sometimes you just know I can not have this conversation with you.
Markinator · 51-55, M
I sure think so. If your relationship with them isn't healthy, I think that it's totally okay to avoid them. Just don't be rude about it. 🙂
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
Maybe.
I think it’s good to surround yourself with people who make you happy.

To some extent, yes. It's not always fair but sometimes you gotta fight to survive.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Depends on why they make you sad.
Just about everyone you have anything to do with will make you feel sad/angry/happy/confused etc. at some point.

No…. ! You end up feeling isolated..
Instead, surround yourself with people who will help you find the strength to overcome your sorrow.

Without a doubt, yes. You don't deserve that mistreatment.
Yes very much so yes
robbie2499 · 61-69, F
Absolutely! Life is sad enough. You do not others to bring you down.
AngelKrish · 26-30, M
Yes, you should.. Avoid people if they makes you feel sad, uncomfortable, uneasy..... Avoid bad energy...
TheYawnArchive · 46-50, M
Avoiding may not be the answer if unresolved things remain to fester. If an effort to resolve has been unsuccessful, by all means cut off such people totally. And live free of them by looking forward where the sun is shining.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Yes.

I make me most sad.
How can I avoid myself and protect me from me ?
How can I avoid myself and protect me from me ?
Of course
Are these people you want to keep in your life and issues in your relationship that can be resolved? Or are they purely negative/toxic connections that will likely continue to be unhealthy and make you sad?
mindstruggle · F
@OlderSometimesWiser
The latter

@mindstruggle Then it sounds like avoiding those people would be the healthiest thing to do. It’s important to take care of yourself and your peace of mind.

If you can. Yeah 😳
Unless it’s unavoidable, yes. It’s not good for your mental health
