I met an interesting guy at a potluck…

He is 79, a draft dodger from Texas. He seems mentally sharp but tells me he’s been living in a shelter the last five yrs. He is looking for work and asks me if I know someone who would hire him as a domestic live-in. Wants to live for free in exchange for being a servant…cooking, cleaning, personal care, etc…your comments, please!

He had a job looking after a woman until she died at 97…tells me he has good references.

I wouldn't do it, based solely on the fact that it is in fact slavery. I understand we need solutions to our homeless problem, but I wouldn't want this to be one of those solutions.

@calicuz if hes offering its not slavery. If you dont let him leave its kidnapping. If you claim you own him its slavery.

I disagree. So those Black Slaves that stayed in the master's home, and did the master's bidding weren't slaves?
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@calicuz yes because they were considered to be owned.

I still disagree, but you have a point.

@calicuz if i decide to live at my grandma's house and cook and clean for her to help her out. Im not a slave. I choose to be there because i care about her.

If someone tells me i have to finish this job without pay and i cant leave because im his property, thats a slave.

I understand exactly what you're saying, but I disagree with you if the two involved are not family. The agreement between the two in the op, should not be a future resolution to our homeless problem, and that is the concern.

@calicuz i dont think the point of it has anything to do with all the homless people. Its just this one old guy doing what he wants to do. I highly doubt all the homeless people want that life.

I agree, I believe the majority of our homeless want to get back on their feet, especially those with children, we just need to work harder to help them.

@calicuz some need help, some need to help themselves. Everyones got a different situation
