My fellow Americans, how did you guys go from “for the people, to the people, by the people” about 250 years ago
To being the only country in the world which dropped a nuclear weapon on civilians and currently being the number one supporter of the most well-documented genocide in the history of human kind?
I think becoming such a wealthy, powerful, influential nation gave us a sense of impunity and shamelessness. So we feel like we can do no wrong and that we’re always on the “right side of history”. Being on the winning side of WWII and the Cold War bolstered that. But that’s just arrogance. It’s made us blind to our failures and injustices. When the whole rest of the world is saying there’s a genocide in Gaza, our response is “then the whole rest of the world is wrong!” but what’s more likely to be true?
It mostly started under Ronald Reagan. That's when we began this descent into a form of Capitalism that even the original Capitalists would have condemned as a march to Authoritarianism. Bill Clinton was also a big factor in that he made the Democrats move massively to the Right on economics. It was really only a matter of time before the Republicans went full fascist.
