I might have to live in Ukraine illegally going forward. 👀

It turns out that my husband HAS to meet up in person at the immigration office, to make my yearly permit. His mother thinks it might be a trap, but I doubt that. It sounds like a pretty legit rule, since they make my permit based on our marriage, but of course it's possible that they started catching people there either way. The big problem is still them stopping and recruiting people in cars, hence why he can't risk driving anywhere. His mother thinks I should live here illegally, and I think that might be the best option. I think it can result in me eventually getting banned from Ukraine for some years, but perhaps by that time, the war will be over and he can come with to Denmark. I doubt they would be able to find me in the first place, since they still haven't found my husband here.

That's a terrible rule. If permit was based on marriage they could just check marriage certificate, right? Stay there illegally and hope the war gets over soon and you can then apply for permit. I wish there was online application for this.

@Nightwings Yes live there illegally. That woman must have been ordered to do so. Very difficult to be in a situation like this. You guys can't even go to a different country.

@littlepuppywantanewlife Yeah the whole problem is that they don't allow men to escape the country, unless certain circumstances apply to them, like if they have 3 or more children, and other stuff like that, because they want to send them all to war.

@nuddie That sounds too good to be true haha. I would prefer not having anything paid by anyone's government though, I would likely go back to Denmark and try to find work there quickly. Perhaps I could stay in a shelter, or something similar, until I find work.

Yes, I would imagine it is rare to move there but what I was referring to is people hiding is probably not uncommon? Men hiding from the military and other reasons like yours. I remember in the beginning when so many were fleeing the country. I probably would have done the same thing although I wouldn't know until I was in that situation.
I hope you both can stick it out and survive together until more peaceful times.

@Elisbch Oh, yes nearly all guys are hiding from the recruiters, they are all in the same boat together. We even had two different delivery drivers give us a link to a "secret" (not so secret) group chat which helps guys avoid recruiters. They also sometimes help with things like taking the trash out for for my husband lol. 😆
