Not really a practical solution because growing own food isn't free either. In terms of costs and effort spent, it would probably cost more. Also I don't imagine too many people have the garden space to grow much more than a few meals worth at a time.

Problems never solved, just rearranged.

@jshm2
Nah, they'll just steal it from you instead.....
Or they will jack up the price of seeds seriously and claim "seed flu". 🙄

@Punches During covid I put about eighty bucks into my "victory garden" and harvested 3 tomatoes. 3.
And I do have a decent ammount potatoes,onions and garlic going,so big win there,plus a big rosemary bush. Most farming takes actual dedication. Big Agra is well into patenting seed strains.Pretty disheartening.

@dubkebab Yeah I mean I imagine the work and money put into growing one's own food would just be way more money than rising grocery costs.

I think gardening as a hobby is great but it is not a way to "beat the system".

Plus what would someone do about meat, fish, poultry, bread, etc? Who wants to live solely off vegetables?

@Punches every penny saved is worth it. Except if you are trump or musk. Also time spent constructively is less time wasted on unproductive pursuits.

@Punches 4$ for 25 seeds for green snap peas. If 20 plants produce .5lb each thats 10lbs for 4$ or at $1.79 a pound ($17.9); you do the math. Savings is noticable. This is what trumps policy will require for the citizen to survive. That much more money for meats fish and dairy. Cost savings
