"Video games won't get you a job"

Somebody said that to me once, because they belived I spent too much time playing my Nintendo 64.

Here I am, all these years on. I'm a producer at a games studio, working on some incredible titles. I have a good income, 35 paid days off per year (plus bank holidays) with 14 paid sick days a year if I need them. I don't do "crunch" and I can work from home most of the time (thank you 2020).

I'd love to meet up the person who said that to me today, so I can show them.

How did you get the job?

@Lilliesandlight I studied it in university. Then I went looking to see how many games companies there were in Britain and found out we have a load of them. So it was quite easy for me to jump into.

@smiler2012 I think it just proves though to all parents or anyone really, that it doesn't matter what hobbies a child has. It can turn into a career.

If a kid loves dinosaurs and playing in sand past age 6/7 - maybe they'll be an archeologist. If they daydream a lot, maybe they will be writer with some amazing stories.
