Where should I “move” to?

Move is in quotes because I’m already…sort of homeless.
I nearly died from covid in December of 2021. It has shattered my life. Since then, I’ve had many health issues making it nearly impossible to work. I’ve also tried to end my life earlier this year because of all of these issues. Some health issues were resolved but my lungs have scarring and I’ll never get better.
I want to leave Long Island, NY and start over. A red state and red county would be preferable. I’m a utility locator so an area with a lot of construction would be helpful. Until I can get back on my feet, I’ll be living out of my large sprinter van.
So what are your suggestions?
Stay away from Gary, Indiana.

You should head down to Ohio and get the pneumonia vaccine from a walmart, that's what I did, only reason I survived, I have weak lungs. It's the closest non-liberal state that allows walkins to get it.

As to location, long island is exactly where I'm thinking kf going once I have a van, but I can understand why you wouldn't want to do winter time in a van. I can handle the bundling up, and only turning the propane on when getting out of bed and getting dressed.

I'd probably choose the Florida-Georgia-Charleston coastline. It will get unbearably hot in the summer, and saw a public parking garage in Charleston, South Carolina boot people out living in their cars trying to escape the summer sun, but you can get a hunk of swampland in South Carolina for $5000 outside of the city. Down in Savannah, Georgia you have alot of military (army rangers, navy) and down in Florida you have lots of coastline, but they hate homeless people. Close to Atlanta if you need a big city, but it has terrible traffic.

Oh, along the coast they rent out metal garages for businessmen doing construction work, they should fit a sprinter van. Nobody will think twice if you operate out of one.

@Motzu a van in the summer heat without AC would be like a sauna. I’d rather be cool and bundle up but not freezing.
The Carolinas. Just took a glance at US News & World Reports list of best places to live in the US. Cities in the Carolinas showed up a lot. So did cities in Colorado.
Seems the Carolinas are a great spot to settle. Green spaces. Nice people. Take great care of yourself.

I'm sorry for your struggles. I'm a fellow long islander too

So I left New York with only $1100 and the thought of heading West. I’m now in Ohio! I might head to Nebraska….or Missouri or Illinois or maybe Indiana. I’ve never been to Nebraska and only passed through those other states. I like the 75 mph speed limit and the cheap diesel prices in Nebraska and salaries for the work I do seem higher there. We will see!

Michigan has a blue governor, but we been known to vote red.
It's real cold in the winter though.
Lots of construction late spring-fall.
Lots of parks and wooded areas, especially in Upper Peninsula, but there are more programs to help homeless in the lower peninsula.

If you prefer a red State and red county, that would suggest to me that you've been an anti-vaxxer at least since Covid-19 began which is why you're in the poor state of health that you're experiencing now. What you have is what's known as 'long Covid', which means those Covid symptoms stubbornly persist long after the fact, usually for years to follow.

Rather than move to a red State where the belief in vaccinations is largely ignored, perhaps you should stay in NY and check yourself into a hospital which treats for 'long Covid'? The process takes over a month, but moving to a blue State will prove useless to you at the end of the day.
@SandWitch I prefer The Prohibition Party.

@Motzu
I think you're the type who also prefers to be sick whenever the opportunity presents itself.
@SandWitch I choose not to take a bath for that very reason. You see right through me.
