When making Pumpkin soup, do you bake the Pumpkin first or just add it to the pot raw?

I'm lazy and just boil it up but it's worth getting that lovely roasted flavour

I don't cook with pumpkins but I do with sweet potatoes. I cook the sweet potatoes along with other veg in the soup pan.

I usually roast half of it for the flavour to deepen.
