Jealousy, insecurity, fear of not being enough or being left behind, what you want to succeed in goes against their personal beliefs..

It's a very gross thing but it's natural. It's wanting to keep someone down. It's the feeling that "No matter what everyone else does, you must lose." :/ I've had the feeling many many times but I never act on it.

Your being successful would threaten them in some way.

It means you are on the same road behind them and they think you are following them and don't wish that you overtake. Just change lane or change your route

There are elements in every culture that don't want any of their members to rise above. The nail that sticks out gets the hammer and all that. Why? No idea.

Jealousy plus they don't want you to do better than they are in their life, basically speaking...
