Boomer; Gen X; Millennial etc. are hugely popular and totally simplistic, misleading and reductive generational categories.

I disagree. The timeframe you grow up in influences how you see and react to things a great deal, such as communication styles etc. There are academic studies on the topic. However it’s important to note that they are generalisations and that there are nuances to any “group research”. To compare this research to the metaphysical makes no sense.

@CrystalSkull I disagree. Take just 100 people from anyone of these groups and you’ll be hard pressed to find them believing the same thing. They are lazy generalisations that conveniently pigeon hole people.

@Morvoren Ok fair enough. But there are generalisations and stereotypes everywhere that are applicable that are relevant. One has to start somewhere. This is not to say that everyone deserves to be pigeonholed. The generations might differ in what they believe but their social interactions and communication styles are influenced by when they are born. Pop culture, eating habits, hobbies, language work ethics etc, are very much influenced by the time they were raised in. You can’t deny that. All of us are a product of our environments and where we are in history. Ideas change with each generation. This is progressive and a good thing. Do you have kids? If yes then you’ll note how this generation is different to the millennials in their habits vs the Gen x people, boomers and even the silent generation. I think it’s fascinating.
