I'm really lucky. I do a four hour stint on the till at an Oxfam Book and Music Shop. For me this combines work and relaxation. I can listen to my own music, read my kindle and serve the occasional customer! I have mental health issues, nothing very serious, but the problem is there. But the four hours at Oxfam helps. The chats with those customers are often very good.

I'd advise volunteering, but I suppose that you need to strike lucky like me.

Make a list of what matters to you. It also depends upon how many days off you get. I do not volunteer. I do good deeds for others when I can. I work nights mostly and I am single so I take care of me, my dogs, and my home. I squeeze in time for fun and for hobbies and for things that make me happy. No time for volunteering really. I have been thinking of applying to a local optimist club. Maybe next year. I need me-time first. That is what keeps me happy. You have to live your own life on your own terms. Good luck.

I think it’s important to maintain unscheduled time. If you can keep that and squeeze in some volunteering, sure.

Sleep in. Get stuff done. Try to relax. Don’t get enough of any of them.
