Purpose and Meaning

Something that has always baffled me is the need that most people have for their life to "mean something". Apparently, one cannot be happy or fulfilled unless one's life has a "purpose" to it, but I have no idea why that should be the case.
My life doesn't mean anything at all, and I'm perfectly happy about that. We're born, we live, and then we die, and that's it. There's no "afterlife", reincarnation isn't real, and we won't be judged by "God" (whatever that is), so why would anyone waste their time trying to find out "what it's all about"? Life isn't about anything. Isn't that obvious?

Reading a bit of psychology can help.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
@CheshireAzur Yes, I'm familiar with the needs hierarchy, which is usually presented graphically as a pyramid (or more accurately, a triangle). Some of those "needs" I would argue are not needed at all.

@Bellatrix2083 May I see your thesis then or where you base your opinions from?
@CheshireAzur My thesis? Give me one good reason to believe Maslow. The burden of evidence does, you realise, rest with the one who makes a claim, so... I don't need to give you anything at all. You do.

@Bellatrix2083 So which needs do you think are uneccesary?
@Queendragonfly At the bottom of the pyramid are: breathing, food, water, sleep, sex, homeostasis, excretion. No one "needs" sex.
On the next level above are: security of body, of employment, of resources, of morality, of the family, of health and property. Employment? Morality? No, these are not "needs", even though being employed is of course preferable to being unemployed.
The next level: friendship, family, sexual intimacy. None of these are essential.
The two top levels (esteem and self-actualisation) I would agree are needed (ex. "acceptance of facts" is listed in the top triangle).

@Bellatrix2083 Ah, so you don't read the reasons for developing the pyramid. Again, you are just picking based on uneducated information.

You say.. "don't need" without reasoning.

@CheshireAzur Girl can't drive a roundabout and claim that's why they are dangerous. I think that summed up her whole persona here unless it's all troll style
@CheshireAzur What? Could I have a translation of that? I don't think that was English.

@Bellatrix2083 What, Could you maybe pay attention to who you are replying. I don't think you can read English.
