Have you ever tried to fix something around the house only to have it get worse?

I tried to fix my gate latch from rattling, it fell off. So I had to wedge the fence closed with bricks and a heavy stone.

Defrosting block of ice in freezer...you'd think someone broke in and ransacked the kitchen.

@FloorGenAdm I think this is one everyone has experienced. 😁

@Thevy29 So you want me to think out of the box?

@FloorGenAdm Unless you have any other DYI mishaps to share?

Yes, the fist time I tried to fix a dripping faucet in a tub. I thought the water shut off would be behind the wall and I took off the tub faucet. Well, it doesn't work like that, and when I removed the faucet water came shooting out. I then ran down to the basement to turn off the main to the house. Luckily the majority of the water stayed in the tub, but there was still some water on the bathroom floor to clean up.
Probably more times than I can recall. Usually a small fix or project results in a larger project. I'm actually better at repairs and refurbishing existing things than replacing them.

My last venture is adding a diversion drain for my sump pump to inside the utility tub in case it freezes in the winter or I need to do maintenance to the outside drain. The new inside drain is perfect and worked great. It has its own shutoff, which technically is compliant with ordinances.

There's an existing shutoff for outside, and I was trying to shut it off and the handle broke right at the stem. I really wasn't planning on redoing the outside drain for a while.

What the fuck did you do lol take a hammer to the damn thing...

@Longpatrol There was a thin bolt between the fence pole (That's probably not its name) and the corrugated iron sheet that was only hanging on by its last thread. I had twisted it the wrong way and it came off but I couldn't get it back on. Plus there was 2 bolts missing from it to begin with, So. . . The lose bricks and big stone came in handy. Well that and the wheelbarrow I used to help prop the fence.

Unfortunately I fix some things and seriously don't fix other things around the house
