Realizing that I need to be realistic about my diminishing physical capabilities at my age.

@dancingtongue are you okay.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@samueltyler2 You mean for having Stage 4 prostate cancer? Very stable and apparently arrested for the time being. But the fact that I am now living alone makes me very conscious that I can't risk falls, and that the meds I am on make me fatigued very rapidly.

@dancingtongue have you spoken to your oncologist about tissue agnostic therapy? If your tumor has the correct genetic markers, it could be the answer to your treatment problems.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@samueltyler2 Not specifically. He did have a genetic work-up done on me and said it doesn't appear to be genetically-based. For now he has me on hormone therapy, starving the cancer by essentially removing the testosterone it feeds on and it appears to have stabilized my condition for now. But he is monitoring the situation to consider other therapies if that changes.

@dancingtongue you didn't understand my comment, or your physician is not up to date. The genetic evaluation is not of you, it is of your tumor! There are tumor markers in the cells of your tumor. Often, in late stage cancers, there is a therapy aimed at the specific tumor markers, rather than the tumor tissue. The therapy is aimed at those markers, that is why it is called tissue agnostic therapy.

@samueltyler2 I have emailed him a query. He is certified in oncology and completed a residency at SUNY/Brooklyn and a Fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical School relatively recently, so presume he is fairly up to date.

@dancingtongue He says tissue agnostic therapy is an option when BRAF-mutations become indicated, and that he will go over that with me at our next appointment.

@dancingtongue good, I don't remember all of the genes for which therapy has been invented,but, discuss it for sure.
