How I feel about immigration .

When I hear about refugees fleeing their home country in search of a better life or safety from war , I wonder if they realise no where in the world will ever be like home . Took me a long time to realise and often wish I had realised just how lucky I was growing up in Africa and the life I had . Being forced to leave in my 20s was hard but just never realised the hole it would leave in my life that would never be filled no matter where in the world I was .

Oh, they probably do and some do yearn to go back, but when the nearest "place" like their home destroyed by war or famine, is Hell, what else can they do?

One of the impressive things I have seen about the US was whenever they detached their military anywhere they would take a piece of home with them. Whilst the UK forces were crammed into old buildings with too many people sleeping in too close proximity, the mess looked like the opening scene from an episode of London's Burning* and the gym was a few pathetic bits of equipment that looked like they'd been found in the desert, the US camp would have tented sleeping quarters so that people got there own space, swimming pools, fully equipped gyms and what looked like a Baskin Robbins. Not to mention their base had a cool name like 'The Rock' or some equivalent. It wasn't home but it was much more like it than the crap we had. Anyway there is a moral to this:
Wherever you go take whatever you can to make it as much like home as possible.

I can understand that. My grandfather fought for Britain in the second world war and was granted citizenship and residency shortly after. But he never really settled until he retired and bought back the family farm in Poland.
Everyone is different. Plus some people are escaping from war they really don't have a choice. It must twice as hard for them.

That's part of the reason I still live in the States. I know that no matter how fucked up things get, there's no place like home.
