At what point in life is 'your time in the sun' over ?

Age 40? Age 50? Age 60?

Something different? I feel like mine is passing currently so by 50 I'm sliding down the other side into perpetual obscurity.

Depends upon how you define "your time in the sun", and what you allow to define yourself. If work defines you, it pretty much sets the day you retire (unless you continue to have a consulting role as I did). If family defines you, it is going to change but not end when you become an empty nester. If you have a multitude of interests, your time may not end until the final flicker of curiosity and involvement is gone.
