Does life begin BEFORE conception?

I'm hearing rumblings of banning the morning after pill, which keeps an egg from becoming fertilized.

It depends on how you define life. Technically all cells are alive, including egg and sperm cells. So you can argue that life absolutely begins before conception.

The pro-life argument that life begins at conception has no basis in science. It's just an arbitrary starting point. Some others believe that life doesn't begin until the first heartbeat, the first breath, or the point where the embryo begins taking human features.

There is no conclusive definition from a scientific point of view because the concept what defines a life is tainted by ideological biases.
