Why are people oddly concerned about how someone lives their life?
I just know as a fairly young woman, people threaten me a lot because I think marriage is pointless and I don’t want kids. I get told that I’m biologically worthless past 35, that I’m going to die alone and hit the wall soon.
It honestly is now striking me as funny. I’m over here living my best life and other people are pressed about it 💀 okay
People who lean socially conservative tend to value "sanctity" a lot more disproportionately than socially liberal people. What that often means is that whatever they consider "sacred", whether it's marriage or child-bearing or careers, they tend to get uptight about because to go against this is considered sacrilege.
Lots of societies throughout history have had death penalties for trivial things based on this principle, like homosexuality or blasphemy or eating bacon. It's tough to say how much of this is neurological given that it's tied to our disgust/aversion response, or whether it's mostly a cultural thing people inherit from their upbringing, but either way, it is pretty condescending.
Just because something works for you doesn't mean it'll work for everyone. I think that's an important lesson we all need to remember sometimes.
Forget the haters...there's no law stating you need to be married and/or have kids by a certain age (not to mention marriage is highly overrated, seeing half of all such unions end in divorce, and half the couples who stay together admit they aren't very happy). If you're doing well the way your life is currently going, that's all that matters! 😊
