What do you do to get rid of bad memories/thoughts?

Without drinking or drugging them away? I'm going insane here.

Bury that shit deep

Hahaha. Yeah that's always my go to plan. Bury it deep down and keep an eye on it.

I write them out

Writing about them helps sort things out so the memories aren't swirling around in your head like a nightmare on spin cycle. But it won't get rid of them. Nothing will get rid of them. The harder you try, the harder it becomes, to forget.

Focusing on something else can certainly block out those bad thoughts for the time you are busy with whatever you're doing.

The best way to deal with bad, hurtful, memories and thoughts, is still, and always will be, exercise followed by meditation, follow that up with a hot bath or shower and you will feel better.

Several ways. I recommend Motorcycles. Fast motorcycles. And also working out. Hard. Boxing helps. It's a good release.

@Lady-Avidan: I have a lifetime of horrible memories. I drink and stuff it away as best as possible.

Think of happy things, do happy things, find funny things, be around happy people. Get lots of hugs. Find somebody in need and help them. Spend time playing with little children.

Mourn. Feel them. Embrace them. Then create good ones.

Talk about them with someone, seek to understand them. When you do, they won't hurt as much.
