Did you know that other people are running for president?

I didn't. I thought it was just Trump and Biden.

There is almost always some people running on third party platforms. Unfortunately, the way we vote in the US, those are really wasted ballots. A third party candidate doesn't have a chance winning. It is a gesture to vote against the other 2, silly gesture in my opinion.

@samueltyler2 there's nothing 'silly' about voting according to your own beliefs and conscience. the only 'wasted' votes are those which are not cast. often as many as 60% of eligible voters choose to relinquish that power. those are in fact wasted votes! I vote for what I believe in, if it happens to be a third party, so be it.

@GerOttman good for you. But, you do realize that if there are 2 from major parties running that you do not like, that you could help the least disliked one be elected. In a few places the people can vote rank order. Then, your third party vote doesn't take away from the others.

@samueltyler2 you do realize, as well, that those who do not vote at all also take away from the overall rank. this is the lesser of two weevil's argument and I find it irrelevant. Somewhere, somehow, someday, the two party system needs to be broken in the US. It won't be soon but every vote does count. there is more at stake than a simple win/lose. ballot access, as well as media access depend on growing the third and even fourth party contingent. why do you suppose the two major parties try so hard to dismiss third party challengers? my third party vote, proportionately, counts for more than a two party vote.

@GerOttman there are some places in the US that already have the rank order system for voting. I hope that it replaces the current system, also I hope we can get rid of the electoral college and use the popular vote! The electoral college, and providing 2 senators for each state is a relic of the need to give the smaller states, initially the southern ones, more power so they would help pay off the revolutionary debt and then stay in the union. The smaller states now reap many benefits from the way taxes are returned to them (some states received far more taxes back than they provide, my state, NJ, gets screwed royally in that!) they need to now give something back!

@samueltyler2 too much wrong there to even get into... btw, I'm in NJ too!

@GerOttman wrong where? Not with what I stated, I believe that is factual.

I have been in NJ since 1972. I have worked with almost every governor, of both parties. I found 2 republican governors that I enjoyed working with, one I despised, most of the time, democratic governors were more disappointing than the republicans.

@samueltyler2 "good for you"
