Is it important that family and friends buy you a birthday gift?

SW-User
No, I buy myself pretty much everything I want or need anyway. If they can just set aside some time to spend with me that's enough.

I haven’t been given a birthday gift in years. It doesn’t feel great, being unimportant, but it is what it is.

@summersong i feel ya.
Not really. But then again I am a giver and not so good of a taker. I would be happy with those whom are special to me, to just be around me on my special day. Material things are not so important.

It's important that they don't, so nobody does, thankfully. Everyone who knows me intimately to any degree knows that I think celebrating birthdays is nonsense, except perhaps for very small children; therefore they know not to treat me any differently on my birthday and to not even mention it if they happen to remember.

No, as long as i get to spend time with them i’m happy.

Yes, I certainly wish that they would. But I had to be content with a phone call, if I am lucky, from my son this year, because we usually go out to eat, and with the virus we could not.

No, I keep telling me family I don't need gifts for my birthday, but if I randomly need something during the year, that might be more helpful.

Not at all, I like being surrounded by love and creating happy memories, gifts are just the cherry on the cake if received pun intended 🍰 😌💕
Not required but almost always appreciated. Unfortunately, there's almost always that person who gets you a gift as part of an agenda.

No. I haven't celebrated a birthday in years. Always seemed like more a thing for kids, to me.

I'm not that bothered having said that I know my family would get me something.

No, if they just wish me on my birthday... That is enough for me 😌

I've received little more than a cake for most years of my life, childhood or adult.
