Does anyone hold long grudges?

Back in high-school, there was a guy who I really hated. He didn't bully me or I didn't bully him but we just didn't really get along. I left high-school over ten years ago now and I forgot about about my deep dislike for him. I ran into him before the lockdown began and my hatred for him has come back. I'm trying to understand why I feel that way because I've never been that kind of a bitter person before.

It's got me thinking, do any of you guys still hold grudges which have lasted a long time?

I do when people get on the wrong side of me. It has nothing to do with gender.

@Crazychick haha yeah, you can get dickheads on both sides
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@stevenjames93 Yet you said "do any of you guys still hold grudges which have lasted a long time?". Why?
stevenjames93 · 26-30, M
@Crazychick oh sorry for my ignorance there. I meant guys as a broad term for both males and females, didn't mean to offend 🙈

@stevenjames93 Where I come from there is no such thing as "guys as a broad term for both males and females". The word "guys" means "men" and is not gender-neutral. Who spread this internet craze for using it as a unisex word?

@Crazychick I'm originally from the North Eastern US - guys was often used to include a group including both men and women

of course we use to write on stone tablets

@Pretzel It just doesn't sound right. It's, well, weird. WEird with a capital WE.
stevenjames93 · 26-30, M
@Crazychick I'm aware that some people believe that "guys" means "men". Believe me, it was never my intention to offend. A lot of my female friends use "guys" to call out all genders.

Lol either way, this topics taken a bit of a turn.
@Crazychick Again, the whole world is not England...”guys” used in addressing a group that includes both genders isn’t new and predates the internet by at least several decades.
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@stevenjames93 No woman in my area would ever use "guys" in that context. It's absolutely unthinkable. We're too proud of our own gender, like Helen Reddy was when she sang "I Am Woman".
@Crazychick Good grief. 🤦🏽‍♀️

@bijouxbroussard Where I come from we tend to go by dictionary definitions. I suppose it's our typically rigid English education. The dictionary says it means "men" and that's been around for more than a few decades. It just doesn't seem appropriate to use a masculine word to describe both genders.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
@Crazychick I'm not wound that tight - but I'll remember not to use it in your presence.

and dictionary definitions? just the generally accepted meaning and subject to change without notice.
stevenjames93 · 26-30, M
@Crazychick I'm from England as well and up to this point I've been fine saying it haha. I work for a fairly progressive company and I've heard many women say it before as well. I have read on twitter that some people do find it demeaning though. I need to switch up my vocabulary me thinks.
@Crazychick Well, the British dictionary also refers to Guy Fawkes, but you knew that wasn’t what he meant.
But seriously, we have dictionaries, too...informally, “you guys” means:
“ you guys. pron. Informal. You. Used in addressing two or more people.”
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard I don't know what dictionary you are going by but I'm sure it's not the Oxford English Dictionary. Also, Guy Fawkes was male so that was irrelevant.
@stevenjames93 So even in England, some people say “you guys” to mixed-gender groups and no one’s arrested ? Good to know. 😅
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard I didn't say it was illegal, it's just not socially acceptable.
stevenjames93 · 26-30, M
@Crazychick out of curiosity, which other terms or phrases such as that would you find offensive/demeaning.
@Crazychick But apparently that’s not true everywhere, either.

@stevenjames93 Too many to list here. It would be quicker to go through my answers in my profile (I'm not one of those sinister trolls who hides them, so feel free to look).
