Odd, this very scenario happened to me just last November. A longtime family friend named Web (short for Webster) had a severe falling out with me and all my relatives. After several years of no longer associating with him, Web was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer last year and was placed in hospice. My father decided to say goodbye to him even though they are no longer friends.

This is the only real life example I received. I think, in reality, many people wouldn’t know what they would do if really faced with the situation. @BlueMetalChick
