Do I have a lot of money in my pocket or in the bank, do I live in a luxurious mansion or own fancy cars, do I wear the finest tailored clothes, do I travel to exotic or posh places, do I have servants and assistants to cater to my every need or whim....no I do not. However I look at my wife, the things we do have, the modest home we share, our relationship, and the life we live….I feel truly blessed, and I consider myself a rich man every single time that I am able to wake up to that and enjoy it all for another day.

@rjc36 Exactly. Money and expensive/fancy material things have never meant that much to me. I have always been more attracted to the sentimental and what touches the heart, mind, and spirit. I like nice "things" just like everyone else, but often my idea of "nice" or "good" is not exactly what many other people would consider to be so. If any of the things my wife and I have are worth any monetary value...they will be sold when we are both gone and don't need them anymore. Until then they are only valuable to us for the pleasure, enjoyment, and comfort they bring to US.

After I received my inheritance from my mother, prior to her death, I experienced a brief moment. She wanted my brother and I to have the money early, but we were to pay for her assisted living and hospice from that money as well.
I still remember walking into the bank and the bank manager was fawning all over me, and I thought to myself, "How awful!" It certainly wasn't fun to be treated differently because they thought they could get some of my mother's money.

@4meAndyou My wife and have always said that if we ever came into a lot of money we would still just be ourselves and live our lives much like we do now (the only difference being that we'd have more money in the bank and we'd have a little better and more for improvements where necessary). Having money is not something we'd flaunt...most people unless they knew us personally would not even guess we had it. However, we are also well aware that people would find out, and living normal lives would be a struggle because they wouldn't let us just be "normal". They would either treat us differently, or they would be trying every trick in the book to get their hands on some or all of our money. That's the main reason we would only want enough for us to live comfortably for the rest of our lives and not have more than we'd ever know what to do with.

Many times when I have people I care about around me or just feel blessed with the things I have.
