Who is more cruel, Humans or nature ?

Here are 2 true scenarios to consider. I encountered this on Wikipedia while reading about a rain spider living in my house.

A: An experiment was done in 1959 where a Palystes superciliosus (Rain/Huntsman spider) was allowed to bite an adult guinea pig on the nose. The guinea pig died within 7 minutes, leading to a belief that the spider's venom was dangerous. However, further research on anaesthetized guinea pigs showed that the original guinea pig had actually died of shock, rather than as a result of the spider's venom. In humans the bite is no more dangerous than a bee sting.

B: P. superciliosus (and other Palystes spiders) are also commonly seen paralysed, being dragged by a large wasp called a Pompilid wasp. Sometimes the wasp will not be present. Pompilid wasps only hunt spiders, which they paralyse by stinging them. They then drag the spider back to their nest where they lay an egg on the spider, then seal the spider and the egg in. When the egg hatches, the larva eats the paralysed spider, keeping the spider alive as long as possible by eating peripheral flesh first, and saving the vital organs till last. By doing this, the spider stays fresh long enough for the wasp larva to mature and pupate.

I have heard of this behavior in wasps before. A friend of mind has a friend with tomato plants, and a large green tomato worm was eating his plants...but later he found the worm covered with white eggs. Same thing. It does seem very cruel, to be eaten from the inside while unable to move.

@4meAndyou Yeah, it's like a frightening horror movie thing. Far better to just be killed rather than slowly eaten alive.
I wonder if the wasp venom includes a sedative to prevent the spider from dying from shock.

@Wraithorn I was just thinking that. I'll bet there is some kind of overall numbing agent in the paralytic.

@Wraithorn Hey, maybe we should tell President Trump to have his researchers look into that... he has ordered research into non-addictive pain relievers.

@4meAndyou Okay, good idea. We can start by throwing him into a tank full of spiders and wasps.
We'll collect the resultant data for the good of humanity. 🙂

@Wraithorn 😂 Well, if we are correct, he will be the pioneer who discovered non-addictive pain reliever! Yay!!
