You answered your own question. We have "evolved" BECAUSE we are competitive. Competition rewards the fittest and weeds out the weak.
That is the whole purpose of life. To learn and grow and hopefully learn from our mistakes. Not repeat them. How stale and boring life would be if we never did these things. We didn't just "evolve". we were created by our maker and we had/have a definite purpose .
Evolution doesn’t need a reason to happen. It’s a theory that explains what’s happening. Speciation and natural selection answers your questions to an extent.

Thank you. Then isn’t it fascinating. Speciation? I suppose our purpose is to control it as we have a tendency to destroy it, but to what end? You can see purpose in other species.. at least in the food cycle ...@DrScissorhands
We can not and do not control speciation. Unless of course we are referring to artificial selection as in the case of domesticated animals. Natural selection sieves through the genes better adapted for the environment we live in. That’s as specific as it gets. And yes, it’s fascinating as it explains the fundamentals of human origins. @Mindful

2 species can't occupy the same environmental niche no matter how evolved they are.

"evolved?" I see our species as barbaric. Animals are much more civilized than humans. We are greedy, selfish, arrogant, destructive parasites who do nothing but harm other species. We continue to grow in spite of the fact that there are already too many "big brains" on the planet and we continue to spread like the deadly virus we are.
