Paul Ehrlich said, if you know who that is
firefall · 61-69, M
@MiraRoss I know who Paul "Ewwww, all the brown people" Ehrlich is, author of a series of failed prediction books - the Population Bomb, the Population Explosion, etc

I see absolutely no reason to give any weight to his opinion at all, given his deep-dyed racism.
WoodyAq · M
@MiraRoss Yeah, I know him. Made doomsday predictions in the 1970s about the 1980s and 1990s.

Said that women shouldn't have free reproductive rights, and that those decisions should be made by the government.

@firefall also David Attenborough said our population is way overboard
WoodyAq · M
@MiraRoss Is that a scientific term, "way overboard"?
room101 · 51-55, M
@MiraRoss Paul Ehrlich died more than one hundred years ago. Whilst I agree that our planet is quickly becoming overpopulated, his views on what an ideal population number may or may not be, should be taken in context.
firefall · 61-69, M
@MiraRoss that's .. hardly the same thing. And frankly as a naturalist, I'd expect his position to be 'less humans, more animals' at any population level, which doesnt exactly give much weight to his argument.

@room101 more than one hundred years ago? that's impressive seeing he was still writing books in the 70s. I think you're looking at the microbiologist from pre-WW1 (1854-1915), not the pontificating wanker from the 2nd half of this century (Paul R Ehrlich, b 1932)
WoodyAq · M
@room101 I think you might be thinking of Thomas Malthus.
MiraRoss · 31-35, F
@firefall if you've watch some of his things, he did research regarding population
room101 · 51-55, M
@firefall
Paul Ehrlich
Born14 March 1854
Strehlen, Lower Silesia, Prussia (now Strzelin, Poland)
Died20 August 1915 (aged 61)
Bad Homburg, Hesse, Germany

Is there more than one Paul Ehrlich 🤔
firefall · 61-69, M
@MiraRoss I'll admit, I haven't, I don't really watch TV
room101 · 51-55, M
@WoodyAq You guys are talking about Dr Paul R. Ehrlich. Gotcha 👍
WoodyAq · M
@room101 Yep. Wrong one. The one who wrote about the population bomb. Big sensation in the 1970s, but the predictions bombed.
room101 · 51-55, M
@WoodyAq Yeah, I now know who you mean. My mistake.
WoodyAq · M
@room101 No worries. I thought you were confusing him with Thomas Malthus, who made the same basic predictions in the 1820s.
