I think that making offending someone a crime is a very dangerous thing to normalise as some people seem to be offended just by being alive.

What are your thoughts?

I agree. There are certain behaviors that should be illegal, but being offended and finding things offensive is just a part of life. We can't all fit in and belong with everybody and everywhere, we should just get over it and move on to something else. Part of growing up and living is FINDING our place in this world...not forcing our way into someone else's. We're not going to like everything or even agree with it, but there is no sense in getting rid of them just because our own personal feelings and preferences. You can't and shouldn't establish your own rights by stepping on and/or taking away the rights of others.

@indyjoe Exactly... people need to grow a thick skin and learn to accept the reality that they will be offended throughout their lives. To get all whiney assed every time they get their feelings hurt is like a child running to a parent crying because someone called them a name. Such people need to learn to deal with it and grow a spine...smh...

@AlienZipper Personally when I see someone name calling or acting like a dick I am of the opinion that that person has some issues. People would be better prepared for the real world if they could understand that not everything is about them.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@AlienZipper Get mad...but get over it. That's how I see it.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@ZenKitzune Precisely...it just boggles my mind that a rational, logical person would even begin to entertain such asinine ideas.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@ZenKitzune True...that is just an example of the selfishness and self-centeredness that permeates our culture and society.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@indyjoe Yes...this whole thing just blows me away...wow...

@indyjoe The "I deserve to be happy" bs has to stop. Life is fucking hard and you will have a bunch of pain, but you know what? Pain is what teaches us how to survive.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@ZenKitzune Exactly... and there will be enough real pain in life to deal with that makes this other look like child's play -- which if you think about it, is a childish mentality.

@ZenKitzune 😉👍
ZenKitzune · F
@AlienZipper We should be teaching kids how to deal with difficulty not shielding them from any trace of it.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@ZenKitzune Yes... otherwise they'll never really grow up... they'll be trapped in a state of emotional/mental arrested development...
ZenKitzune · F
@AlienZipper And that is cruel.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@ZenKitzune People don't live in bubbles, and if kids aren't taught how to handle disappointments and trials early on they won't be able to handle them as adults.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@ZenKitzune I couldn't agree more. When I was growing up the adults would let me fight my own battles for the most part. teaching me what I needed to know, but never stepping in unless they saw I couldn't handle the situation on my own. I was always told "you need to learn to stand on your own two feet".
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@AlienZipper I already see that happening...
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@Keepitsimple Me too...and what will end up happening is another Columbine type massacre because the world didn't go the way someone told them it would...and they resort to violence to stop being offende...
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@AlienZipper I was sheltered a lot growing up, and when I got out on my own I was the proverbial "sheep among wolves"...It made my young adult hood extremely difficult and I had a lot of learning to do on my own. Thank goodness for the few adults that taught me important life lessons when I was younger (that helped a lot).
ZenKitzune · F
@AlienZipper Resentment builds when you feel you can't speak your mind. Silly and childish ideas left unchallenged can be very dangerous.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@indyjoe Sounds like you turned out in pretty good shape 👍
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@ZenKitzune Dangerous...with lethal consequences...
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@indyjoe That’s what I always worried about with my kids...that transition into the real world and no coping mechanisms and understanding of the real world and what is expected in the real world.
ZenKitzune · F
@AlienZipper Turning kids into emotional pressure cookers is a real recipe for disaster. I hope the problem is realised before it's too late.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
@AlienZipper Thank you, I like to believe I did. But it was no easy road, that is something I'd never want to go through again and wouldn't wish it on anyone.
ZenKitzune · F
@Keepitsimple I'm making sure mine have the skills to cope with pain because there is no use pretending that it isn't coming.
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@ZenKitzune that’s how I felt...I didn’t care how people raised their kids and what they did or gave to them..I let them fall and experience hard times and have bad experiences because that’s the real world.
