My circumstances are more complex. I cannot get into the App Store because I can't remember my password and they've won't give it to me.
I am using my daughter's MacBookPro. And most updates require downloads and my daughter does not remember her admin password so essentially njI am technologically crippled, an outcast, a cyber leper.
And this laptop and operating system are so old that on the rare occasion I get as far as clicking 'upgrade' the display breaks out in helpless giggles.

@Mamapolo2016 Wow that sucks. Can't you talk to a rep and do some kind of reset? Maybe change accounts.
Mamapolo2016 · F
I' m not sure because all the tech notes are written in ancient LAtin

@Peaches Sure you can get a laptop, just know in three or for years it's there's a chance it got probably outdated as well when using Windows.

I used to, until nothing worked anymore...
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@Tinkerhell Same, or similar. I don't have a ton of memory on my phone, so with all the updates installing, it started to get sluggish. Most things don't need to be updated I have found. They run fine from factory specs.

I do not trust anything on The Net..
SoftServe · 26-30, M

Firespirit · 26-30, M
Nope its why I don't update to often

Not always, and I often don't trust the updates where they just say, "bug fixes". I think some updates create more problems than they fix.. IOS not mentioning any names 🙄
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@SW-User That's been my experience too. Most of my phone functions are running at factory specs.

@DanielChristensen I don't blame you although I have a couple of paid-for apps that I rely on for use on my iPhone so ultimately I have to keep the phone updated for them to work, but every time a new update is released I always read up on it and hope that there won't be a serious issue like battery drain etc.

No they update things and make them broken
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@SW-User That is what I am discovering. Growing pains.
SoftServe · 26-30, M
No sloes everything down
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@SoftServe Yeah, same.

No.

I have IOS and do the same, or even phone tech support to be certain.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard You discuss the updates with a tech before installing?
bijouxbroussard · F
@DanielChristensen If anything looks wonky I do. There was something called Mac Defender, an app which appeared out of nowhere and claimed to protect Mac products. I didn’t touch it, but called my own AppleCare rep and asked about it—it was malware, and AppleCare showed me how to get rid of it. I posted a question about it here to let other Mac users know if they happened upon it.
DanielChristensen · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard I've run across those sorts of insidious things several times. Sucks when you have to go to the repair shop.
