Tomorrow is my 37th birthday and I fall into that category of losing myself to always please others. My marriage is shaky because my wife took advantage of this for years. I am now in therapy to try to get myself back.

@LadyGrace Thank you! I have been out of the music scene for many years but in the last year I have been getting back into it. I agree it is very therapeutic. I even went as far as having my bass guitar repaired so I have been dabbling in that again too. It makes me feel good. I have even been offered a spot in two bands recently but I reluctantly declined because my skills are a little rusty.
@BEHINDxTHExROPES I do hope you'll reconsider. There's no better way to get practice and practice makes perfect. Ha ha

Pretty much my entire life.. But now I do not feel the need to please others.
Good. That's very important. @JustLikeGreta

I am extracting myself out of all relationships where I feel I am not being true to myself because I bend over backwards for someone elses need, to keep them from getting upset and so on.
It is better to be alone.

It can feel that way at times, yes, but avoidance is not the healthiest way, either. However, staying away from those you know are toxic to your health, is. @SW-User

@LadyGrace Right now I just need to move away from them, for my own sanity.
@SW-User Exactly...and health. That is sometimes very necessary and a very wise decision.

I love this,thanks for sharing.
I learned the hard way, but then I had no mentor, either. I had to learn on my own. @pedrohedgerow

@LadyGrace I recognise what is said as absolute truth, but had to experience matters to find out. Here it all is,in a nutshell! :)
@SW-User Thank you. I try to save people a lot of heartache, given my own experiences. Try. lol. Trial and error. 😆🤗

Why did you have ask the question, just to spew advice? It's like you really don't want to know if I am a people pleaser or not.
I do believe that's what this "Ask a Question" forum is about. We're here, not for personal gratification or attention, but to help and share what we can. I would have given anything if someone had given me this advice when I was much younger. It would have saved me a lot of heart ache and difficulty. Which is what I am trying to save others, as well. I don't know why you would feel that is offensive. I don't deem myself any smarter than the next person. I've just more experience at making and learning from mistakes, at my age. 😂. @mljenkins

Don't get in the habit of that, or you'll lose yourself. Hugs @SW-User
