I just heard Dana Lash say, during an interview....

(paraphrasing), that the Democrat Party has grifted itself out of relevance. That the American people realize that, and that is why the American people are no longer listening to them.

That Democrats now need to re-define themselves...to state definitively what they stand for...and create a new identity.
