They are
Liberalism is a center right ideology. Very much pro capitalist but less conservative on social issues.

@Gloomy Not many people realize that.....but...there are some differences in Keynesian vs. monetarist economic propensity.
Elessar · 26-30, M
Aren't they? Neo/liberalism is pretty much centre-rightwing.

@CorvusBlackthorne No you do. Look at Creepy Joe. He's a mess.
@ron122 I do not worship any politician, my little imbecile. I leave that to the Republicans.

Today democrats tell us we should have sex with whomever we want and it's none of anyone's business. Tomorrow they will propose all sex should be illegal in order to reduce global warming.

@Justice4All Today’s GOP claim to want smaller government —small enough to fit in a woman’s uterus or a gay person’s bedroom. Btw, they’re also the only one’s who’ve been suggesting repealing both Obergefell and Loving (but I’ll bet they haven’t run the latter past Justice Thomas !) 😳

I just lump them together because it's easier and I think everyone knows what I mean.
BohemianBoo · M
As opposed to?
@BohemianBoo Capitalism is not what I would consider a liberal value. Perhaps liberal in the original sense of the term.
BohemianBoo · M
@CorvusBlackthorne How do you define Liberalism? I see it as mainly Capitalist Democracy.
@CorvusBlackthorne Liberalism is a capitalist ideology. Classical liberals are called "libertarians" in the US (libertarianism is actually just the opposite of authoritarianism), whereas the Democratic Party mainly consists of what you might call neoliberals.

Some are. Many are not.

Ummm they are, but that's kind of the problem. The American myth that Liberalism is a left wing theory is just that, a myth. Liberalism is in fact a center to center right philosophy. Both parties champion Liberalism, the only difference is the Dems take a slightly more Liberal stance on some social issues. But at their core both parties champion for the same base system. It can also be argued that the only difference is that the Dems see the capitalist system crumbling and want to save it with mediocre band aid social welfare systems while the GOP is happy to watch devolve back into a sort of neo-merchantilism
@MethDozer Then we must call it what it is, and take back the word liberal for the left.
bijouxbroussard · F
@CorvusBlackthorne We still have Democrats that are "conservative" in the non-MAGA sense. The difference between the Democrats and the GOP is that there’s still room for differences of opinion in the former party. The GOP ran off all their liberals and most of their moderates when they took that hard right.
MethDozer · M
@CorvusBlackthorne It always has been. Only in modern American redefining has liberalism come to mean left wing. That's how far off center we are.
