Asking trans people what their previous name was 🤔

It's common for one who is transgender to change their name to match the gender their transitioning to. Like a trans woman might want change their masculine name to feminine name or vice versa for a trans man. I've heard of people asking such trans individuals what their original name was. Naturally, the trans people in question usually don't seem comfortable answering that. But why would anyone want to know that anyway? Not just because that's not any of their business, but who cares?! What's even weirder to me is that it seems to be other trans people who like to ask such questions! Maybe it's a trans community thing or something, idk... It just seems like a superficial question to me. I personally would much rather learn about things like when they first discovered they were trans and how their transition was or is going. Seems a lot deeper and more interesting than simply knowing a name they no longer use.
