Once again I ask: what's the big deal about gender?

Someone just blocked me for pointing out a couple of facts regarding sex and gender (see below).

What I did not get an answer to, before being blocked, is why these facts are so aggravating to people who want to insist that there is only male sex / male gender and female sex / female gender, end of story.

If you and everyone you know are 100% male or 100% female then why would it bother you if other people see life differently? To the point of repeating over and over that such people don't exist or are mentally ill? (The rulers of the Soviet Union also labelled people they disagreed with as mentally ill...)

Sigh...

Fact # 1: Anatomically not everyone is male/XY or female/XX. Here's a rather neutral medical article about some of the many variations that exist: https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/001669.htm

Fact # 2: There isn't a simple one-on-one match between physical sex and psychological or social gender. We don't have to talk about current trends and controversies at all; this goes way back in time in many part of the world. In India,the Hijras have been recognized as a third gender for centuries. Physically, they include intersex people, castrated people, and others. In quite a number of Indigenous North American cultures, going way back, there were people who were seen as neither male nor female, or both at the same time. Often these people had special spiritual roles, which is also the case for the Hijras. Those are just a couple of examples I happen to know something about.

I'll tackle this one.

why these facts are so aggravating to people who want to insist that there is only male sex / male gender and female sex / female gender, end of story.

Not everyone agrees, and acting like there is no valid contradicting point to that is childish and stubborn. Who wants to "debate" someone who isn't even interested in hearing or considering a different viewpoint?

If you and everyone you know are 100% male or 100% female then why would it bother you if other people see life differently?

Speaking for myself, it doesn't at all. However, what I have noted is that transgender activists and their allies insist on promoting their worldview on others. They insist on using the term "cis-gendered" to describe others unlike them. This is just as derogatory, divisive and intolerant as they want to claim anti-transgender propaganda is to them.

It's hypocritical and a double standard. Tolerance goes both ways. If you want respect, give respect.
@SumKindaMunster I guess you never studied chemistry, where the cis- and trans- prefixes originated in describing isomers. There's nothing derogatory about the prefixes, just some right-wing fools choosing to be overly sensitive.

@SumKindaMunster I agree with you about disliking dogmatism from any perspective.

"Cisgendered" is not derogatory. @ElwoodBlues mentions that cis- and trans- are used in chemistry. They've also been used in geography since ancient times (cisalpine and transalpine). There needs to be a word for "not trans" other than "normal" -- for obvious reasons. Cis is as good a choice as any.

@ElwoodBlues @SW-User
Who are you to tell me what I consider "deragatory"?

Do you make the same claims to transgenders who protest at being called "tranny"? Or black people not wanting to be called "negroes"?

If not, why should I not have the same freedom and privilege to be addressed in the manner I prefer?

After all, who are you to tell me what I should feel, or take offense to? How is that any of your business?
@SumKindaMunster Looks like somebody needs a safe space!

SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues Yeah I figured you wouldn't be able to respond relevantly. Sorry it stumped you for....what....an hour? 🤔😆
@SumKindaMunster Sorry, dude, I'm not on social media all the time like you!!
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues Right dude. It's all you have. I mean, look at you now desperately responding with nonsense and non sequiturs. If you don't want to talk anymore, feel free to move on, but spare me the notion that you have something better to do, we both know that isn't true. 🤣
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues Anything else? Is the inevitable point where you just start childishly repeating non sequiturs?
@SumKindaMunster Dude, I'm quoting your Orange God!! Have a little respect for the words of the republican savior!!!

SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues Anything else? 😆
@SumKindaMunster No, I think I'll let you get in the last word this time.

SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues Cool, thanks for that.

So nothing further than to just underline, yet again, what a fake and a fraud you are, and a desperate and pathetic hypocrite to boot.

See ya on your next craven attempt to disrupt my conversation with another user here. 👋
@SumKindaMunster Actually, come to think of it, you never explained WHY you found the Latin words for "this side" and "other side" so demeaning. Care to expound??
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues So much for the last word huh? 🤔

🤣Sometimes I just wanna pinch your cheeks you are so precious...🤣

@SumKindaMunster Your original comment wasn't about you personally considering "cisgendered" derogatory. You wrote:
They insist on using the term "cis-gendered" to describe others unlike them. This is just as derogatory, divisive and intolerant as they want to claim anti-transgender propaganda is to them.
No it's not.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@SW-User That's your personal opinion, its not objective reality. You have no power or influence over what someone finds offensive or derogatory.

I ask again, why can other race, gender, religious and ethnic groups determine how they chose to be identified, but I don't get that privilege?

Well for one thing, they are groups, and you aren't.
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@SW-User Yes, but I belong to a race, gender, and an ethnic group, so again, why can't my groups choose how they want to be refered to?

You're kinda disappointing me here with your responses I thought you were taking this seriously. 🤔
SW-User
@SumKindaMunster I'm trying hard to take you seriously but I don't believe you are serious. What is considered offensive isn't a matter of individual choice.
@SW-User He puts great effort into his trolling, doesn't he?
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@SW-User Seriously? You believe that? Offense isn't a matter of personal opinion, its decided collectively?
SW-User
@SumKindaMunster Definitely. You can individually be offended by whatever but that doesn't make it "offensive". Let's say you don't like being called "you"; you prefer "thou". That would not make "you" an offensive term.
