Why Is Being Gay Considered “Amoral”? [I Am LGBT Friendly]

I could never grasp why being gay is considered an “amoral” act. Nor why people are homophobic in the first place. If God exists, and if God supposedly considers homosexuality a sin, then why is homosexuality so common not just in human beings but also in other animals? If it’s so allegedly unnatural, then why is it in our nature at all?

I think the word you are looking for is Immoral. The word Sin means to miss the target. To believe in sin means there must be a target at which to aim. What is the target we Christians aim for? The fullness of God in Christ within us. Have any of us attained it? Not on this side of the grave but that is the challenge. However when aiming for that goal we have to be careful that we do not substitute mankind's 'morals' for the Fullness in Christ. It is clearly spelled out that those who practice homosexual acts will not enter the Kingdom of God (Fullness of Christ within us) so to say that it is OK to engage in homosexual acts is delusional. Much the same as those who engage in slave trading or theft or murder etc. etc. etc.

@hippyjoe1955 Ok hoppy the word sin doesn't mean miss the target, not really sure where you got that from.. so that would kinda ruin the whole basis for your argument. It means guilty, transgression..
The idea that Christianity is about targets is opinion and conjecture, not shared generally or widely..
I see no explanation of why homosexuality occurs in animals and nature.. or any explanation as to why God made some people gay, or even bi.. cos he sure as heck has been doing that since human life began.

@Adaydreambeliever Actually it does. Nice of you to not know the meaning of the term. Too FUNNY! It is a archery term and it means to miss the target. Thus the words of St Paul "For all have missed the target (ἁμαρτία) and come short of the Glory of God"

@hippyjoe1955 Old English synn (noun), syngian (verb); probably related to Latin sons, sont- ‘guilty’.

The word sin comes from Old English synn, syn, sin; Old High German sunta, suntea, perhaps to Latin sons which means guilty. The word sin comes from Old English synn, syn, sin; Old High German sunta, suntea, perhaps to Latin sons which means guilty.

A sin is a deeply regrettable action. ... The most common definition of sin is religious: it's an immoral act against God or divine law.

Transgression. The generic Hebrew word for any kind of sin is avera (literally: transgression). Based on verses in the Hebrew Bible, Judaism describes three levels of sin.

What are the three definitions of sin?
Noun (1) offense, sin, vice, crime, scandal mean a transgression of law. offense applies to the infraction of any law, rule, or code. at that school no offense went unpunished sin implies an offense against moral or religious law. the sin of blasphemy vice applies to a habit or practice that degrades or corrupts.

The word sin has been in use for well over a thousand years. Our current form of the word comes from the Middle English sinne, which is itself from the Old English syn. The original meanings of sin were largely concerned with religious matters ("an offense against religious or moral law"; "a transgression of the law of God"; "a vitiated state of human nature in which the self is estranged from God"), as they still are today.

There are some references to archery but this is not widely accepted

@Adaydreambeliever The term is from the Greek work ἁμαρτία which means to miss the mark. Yes our English word sin comes from old English and from Latin. However the words of St Paul were written in Greek.

@hippyjoe1955 Loving the same gender isn't the same thing as kidnapping someone from their house to go serve in the slave trades.

@Doomflower I disagree though, if Jesus never said homosexuality was wrong but other people did in the bible, how would you know that's "God's" word? Anyone can write anything there and say they speak for God, unless Jesus says it then technically the bible never says it, it's just anecdotal through third party accounts. And true believers who say they believe in what Jesus stood for wouldn't be anti gay like that and wouldn't believe just anyone IF Jesus never said anything.

I don't get the point about being Christian if you truly don't believe what Jesus stood for, it's a waste of time.

@SatanBurger The bible also says gluttony is a sin but no one is saying buffet owners or patrons are going to hell. Or working on Sunday? Okay so there is a clause if you are doing a good deed but somehow I doubt greedy corporations are doing just a "good deed" by being open.

And one of the very commandments - "thou shall not lie" - everyone lies every day in some manner. Pretending to care, telling the kids there is a Santa, tooth fairy, etc.

Everything we do every day is a sin. But if we go to church on Sunday we can make sure our souls are safe for another seven days.

@CestManan I wonder if you could follow the bible literally with all the rules they have in it, you may as well just sit in a blank room and watch paint dry 🤣

@SatanBurger Getting out of that room once a week to go to church would actually be something to look forward to.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@CestManan Ahhhhh but WHICH church? There's 3,000 variations, what if it's the wrong one then you'd be screwed. Glad you got eternity in that room to figure it out lol.

@SatanBurger This is Legg's friend. She is not able to answe because after reading about the 3,000 variations, she just passed out trying to grasp which one might be right.
