I dont understand how they can overturn this
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@DarkSideoftheMoon Because they answer to no one. They can't be removed from office, no matter what they do. The United States is now ruled by the Council of Nine.

@LordShadowfire what about the gay couples who are already married? So does that not count anymore? Im a bit confused as to how that works out.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@DarkSideoftheMoon The Council of Nine shall dissolve their marriages. They reign supreme!
Okay, but sarcasm aside, I have no idea how it's going to work, but they're going to try.

@LordShadowfire oh wow. Thats so messed up.

@DarkSideoftheMoon They would say that the Equal Protection Clause doesn't apply to same-sex marriage, allowing the states to either stop allowing them or dissolving the ones that already exist. Although, I don't see them doing that as it would be a logistical nightmare. Most states would simply grandfather in the existing marriages and refuse to recognize any new ones, even ones from other states.
