66 countries criminalize queer people or about there
Punishments for being caught include fines, jail time, death penalty, corporal punishments like flogging, etc. and in other countries where it is legal, there is a lot of violence and discrimination towards queer people. America still lags behind Western Europe, Northern Europe like Scandinavia) Canada and other countries but at least there isn’t this active persecution that some countries commit. Although in many states, you could be denied access to healthcare, housing, employment, business and public accommodations, education, etc. because of being queer. Which means not heterosexual or cisgender it’s an all encompassing term. How could being yourself cause so much trouble?even in countries with robust legal protections though sometimes it’s not enough to escape hate crimes and that saddens me most of all. Where does this irrational hatred of queer people come from? I am not even saying people have to agree with lgbtqia community, but you need to respect people and treat them with dignity as human beings. At least be tolerant of those who are different from you even if you don’t understand or like it.
